This is a large (750 sq. ft.), very luminous, two bedroom (1 bathroom) apartment spread over two levels on the third and fourth American floors in a 19th Century building with security digicode. If you liked the movie "Amelie" then you will like the Montmartre district of Paris. This is not the tourist Paris but a slice of the real Paris a mixture of history and contemporary life.
The apartment is on a street on a hill which ends in a set of stairs going up to the Moulin de la Galette (one of the remaining historic windmills). Close by are Rue Lepic and Rue des Abbesses, known for their high quality food stores and restaurants. The Paris fabric district, the Marche Saint Pierre, is at the foot of the Sacre Coeur Cathedral, just a few minutes walk away.
The Montmartre district, famous for its place in the history of Impressionism and modern art, is still full of galleries and street artists. Picasso's studio, the Bateau Lavoir, is just around the corner. Some of Renoir's best known paintings were done just up the street and Toulouse-Lautrec got much of the inspiration for his most famous work from the Moulin Rouge, just down the hill.
The apartment extends the full width of the building, so its three large front windows overlook the small street and the back windows (downstairs bedroom and bathroom) are overlooking the interior courtyard. It is remarkably quiet since it is at the top of the building and the small street has little or no traffic.
The main salon is a large, open-plan living room/dining room/kitchen with open access to a huge loft on the upper level. The furnishings are a mixture of comfortable contemporary with some lovely antiques and original art. There is a large leather sofa, a Moroccan tiled coffee table, Persian carpet, and polished hardwood floors on the main level. The dining area has a table with four chairs and a cut glass art deco chandelier overhead. There is DSL with Wi-Fi in the apartment.
The downstairs also has 1 bedroom with a queen size bed and the modern bathroom with a walk-in shower, toilet, and basin.
The upstairs bedroom/study on the loft is carpeted and has a queen size bed, a low sloped ceiling, and several skylights as it is literally under the roof. It has a separate study area with desk and chair, storage closets/cupboards, and the clothes washer/dryer.
The kitchen has four cooking elements (3 gas and 1 electric), a conventional oven, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and the full compliment of appliances, dishes, and utensils for six. There is a separate freezer under the eves on the top floor level.
