Originally a typical Beaux Arts style apartment, the recent renovation and contemporary furnishings have added a modern twist to the elegant decor. Through two doors equipped with electronic card readers, you enter into the renovated historic hallway with access to the elevator; a short set of steps leads from the elevator to the apartment.
The large and impressive living room has high ceilings and two tall double-glazed windows (with black-out curtains) giving attractive wide views of the sky and street below. The classic feel of the original marble fireplace and over-mantle mirror is contrasted with the modern - and very comfortable - queen size sofa bed.
The bedroom is pleasant and light, also with two tall windows and black-out curtains. It has its own original polished marble fireplace and a very generous amount of built in wardrobe space. There is a separate flat screen television. The bed is queen size with a deep but firm mattress. Bed linens and towels are of the finest quality.
The dining room features large windows as well and is contiguous with the kitchen but can be completely separated by an ingenious system of 'pocket doors' which slide away completely when not needed. The dining room table can be extended to seat up to six persons.
In the Swedish style kitchen there is a catalytic oven, vitroceramic stove with four hot plates, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and a very effective exhaust hood. All cooking utensils and other small appliances are top quality.
The large bathroom has a full size shower, basin, designer toilet and bidet, as well as a mirrored cabinet with power outlet. (A hairdryer and bathroom radio are provided.) A washer and separate dryer are located in a built-in cupboard (instructions are in English).
The apartment is equipped with fax and answering machine and two Ethernet DSL internet connection outlets and Wi-Fi.
Two LCD televisions plus cable decoders with 150 channels including CNN and BBC, a DVD player and a two separate CD and radio sound systems complete the entertainment line up.
In the hall closet, as well as space for baggage storage, there is a cyclonic HEPA vacuum cleaner, steam iron and ironing board plus a personal safe. The apartment has smoke alarms and a fire extinguisher.
SPECIAL NOTE: The elevator access is to alternate floors. There are about nine steps to walk up from the elevator landing to the apartment if you press #4 or you can walk down two flights of steps if you press #6.
